I can’t say enough about this facility. The staff is kind and caring and always smiling. Julie is amazing! She’s really gone above and beyond to help at a time that has been very difficult for our family. I would highly recommend this facility.

Caring, empathetic staff. Very respectful to family members. As with all facilities, staffing is tough. I never felt that my family member was neglected.

If you prefer your loved one to go even quicker than expected send them here! Absolutely neglected my grandmother so much day after day. Not being showered, sitting her up in a wheelchair for HOURS staring at a wall with no tv remote claiming another patient was going in her room taking her remote and this happened numerous times. The red push buttons don’t work I tried numerous times to click the red button asking for assistance to get her help to use the bathroom time and time again they did not help. I highly recommend you take your loved one home and allow them to spend the rest of their of beautiful days in the comfort of their own home. Once again DO NOT AT ALL COST SEND YOUR LOVED ONE HERE ITS ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING AND TERRIBLE. (Not saying they caused her to go quicker but the amount of neglect was insane catching attitude when asking for assistance as if I’m bothering them to do their job)

DO NOT LEAVE YOUR LOVED ONES HERE!!! I was in this facility for only 60 minutes, and that was 60 minutes too long. The entrance is run-down and unwelcoming, leading to a dirty elevator with broken buttons. Upon reaching the second floor, the smell of urine and feces was so overpowering it took my breath away. We found my Aunt, who suffers from Alzheimer’s in a horrific state. She was unkempt, without shoes or socks, and extremely agitated. Her “bed” was a basic twin with barely any sheets and no safety rails; it wasn’t even a proper hospital bed for someone requiring her level of care. The room itself was shameful: peeling paint, stained furniture, and curtains falling off the rods. A staff member named “Jake” entered in street clothes, looking completely unprofessional and acting very unwelcoming. When we demanded a discharge, the supervisor offered zero apology. We had to take it upon ourselves to get her out of there immediately. This facility is a health hazard. I am reporting this to the Health Department, the BBB, and local news outlets. How this place is still open is a mystery. Do not trust them with your family.

Unfortunately there isn’t a zero star option. My loved one was sent here for skilled rehab from the hospital. She has severe dementia and needs special care and attention and was not even properly settled in. I came to make sure she was okay and settled in and she was propped on a bed with no bed rails and was free to do whatever she could or wanted because no one was watching her. I have no nursing background but even I know you can’t leave severe dementia patients alone like that. She was so upset and agitated and uncomfortable and the nursing assistant told us he gave her a cookie. I am baffled that instead of proper care they just shove cookies at patients to shut them up. The place was disgusting, dirty, stained, unsafe, outdated. I don’t know how they are operating like that. I wouldn’t keep a pet rat in there. I feel so terrible for those who do stay there. With that being said I brought my loved one back home to a more safe and secure and clean environment. Still looking for proper skilled memory care facilities for her to reside but till then we will keep her safe at home not south hills post acute.

Emily, We’re very sorry to read this and understand how upsetting that experience must have been for you. A hospital transition is already difficult — especially for someone living with severe dementia — and safety, supervision, and dignity should always be priorities. What you’ve described does not reflect our standards. We take concerns like this seriously and review them carefully to ensure proper documentation and follow-up. Please contact our Administrator, Jake, at 412-831-8900 so we can speak with you directly and address this appropriately.

My husband spent 17 days here for rehabilitation. His room and the overall facility was very clean. The PT with Katie and OT with Gabby worked wonders for him. I would like to mention the excellent care given to him by Gupta, Freida, Debbie and all of the other staff. We would highly recommend South Hills Post Acute.

Business response 3 months ago

Donna, thank you for your kind review and recommendation of South Hills Post Acute. We’re so glad to hear your husband was well cared for during his stay and that our therapy and nursing teams made a meaningful difference. We’ll be sure to share your compliments with Katie, Gabby, Gupta, Freida, Debbie, and the rest of our staff. Wishing your husband continued healing and all the best moving forward.

DO NOT send your loved ones to this facility. In addition to being understaffed, the staff they managed to keep is negligent. My aunt was a resident here for 4 weeks, and received horrible treatment from this facility. She was supposed to be showered twice a week, yet every week when we asked if she had her scheduled shower, they would have no explanation for why this did not happen. She was supposed to wear a back brace due to a broken vertebrae, and staff would NEVER put it on. Her call bell would be ignored for >30 minutes at a time, and she had several falls because she couldn’t wait that long to go to the bathroom (who could?) We had to call the administrator daily (and sometimes more than once a day) to receive even the basic level of care. We were placated and left with empty promises every time. A few days before she was finally discharged, we were talking to our family member and heard a staff member yelling at her/her roommate, calling them names, and throwing washcloths at them because she was angry that water was spilt. This was brought to the attention of the administrator, who said she would “look into it” only to later say that we had “misheard/misunderstood.” If you are going for physical therapy, good luck! Our family member had to private pay for some of her stay, yet PT is not open on weekends/the holidays. I cannot believe this facility is still open.

UPDATE: My grandfather is now dead because of them. My 101-year old grandfather was sent to South Hills Post Acute to rebuild his strength and shake off the confusion after surgery so he could come back home. Up until this time, Gramps was walking around with his walker just fine and very much had his wits about him. We were so blessed to have such a lively, lovely Grandpa. Now, he’s on a ventilator. The staff – that we were told would provide around the clock care – would leave him in a chair in the hallway all day, under bright lights with alarms going off constantly, and with nearly zero engagement. Confused about why someone had to feed him, the aides would give up after a matter of minutes, so he went hungry most of the time. We only knew he ate what we personally fed him for lunch. We saw a physical therapist and an occupational therapist once as they evaluated him. We were told Gramps was seen once by the house doctor, but we never spoke to a doctor at the facility and a doctor never called us. Every day that he was there, we woke up to a phone call that he fell out of bed eight hours prior to the call. Every time that happened, Grandpa’s mind left a little more. Instead of giving him medical attention, they opted to “check” on him every so often, which we didn’t even see when we visited. They played it as if they had less responsibility since no one actually saw him fall. The last day Gramps was there, we found him bleeding from gashes on his arm and his gown drenched in blood. Everyone played dumb (how they didn’t notice all of the blood is beyond me) and it took an additional ten minutes to get someone to clean and patch him up. He was covered in bruises by this point. Later that evening, we received a phone call telling us that Grandpa had “what looked like possibly a seizure.” They assured us he had calmed down, was resting, and that they were going to keep an eye on him. They asked if I would like to him to go the hospital to get checked out further, to which I said yes. Paramedics realized the urgency and took Gramps to the closest hospital instead of our preferred one. Once we got to the hospital, the doctor informed us how urgent this really was and that HE WAS NOT SLEEPING BUT COMPLETELY UNRESPONSIVE. He bit through his tongue and had blood all over his mouth. After the falls he had at Post Acute, his brain is bleeding, and it wasn’t bleeding in the imaging he had of his brain before being transported to Post Acute. This place ripped my grandpa away from my family just days before Christmas, the day his Christmas gift was delivered. Instead of enjoying the holiday as a family, we’re handling affairs. I would share photos of the shape my grandpa is now in because of them, but the photos are just too gruesome. DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVED ONES HERE.

Business response 4 months ago

Kelsey, we are deeply sorry to hear about your grandfather’s condition and the distress this has caused your family. We recognize how frightening and heartbreaking it is when a loved one experiences medical complications, especially during what should be a time of healing and togetherness. Because we take any concern involving resident safety, medical status, and clinical outcomes extremely seriously, situations such as the one you describe are reviewed through formal internal processes that involve our clinical leadership and quality teams. However, due to privacy laws and the sensitive nature of medical care, we are unable to discuss or respond to specific clinical details in a public forum. We strongly encourage you to contact our Administrator directly at 412-831-1650 so your concerns can be reviewed thoroughly, respectfully, and with the appropriate level of attention. Our goal is always to understand what occurred, address concerns appropriately, and ensure accountability through the proper channels. Our thoughts are with your family during this very difficult time.

For the most part, the staff was considerate to my mother. Unfortunately, they were always short-staffed, and often my mother was not gotten out of bed until the afternoon. Physical and Occupational therapy sessions were not consistent. Lastly, her clothes were either lost or misplaced. From experience, I think she spent more time there than was necessary because of what seemed to be lackluster time management and communication issues.

Business response 4 months ago

Thank you, Kathy, for taking the time to share your experience and for recognizing the consideration shown by many of our team members. We also appreciate your honesty about where your mother’s experience fell short. We understand how important consistent therapy, timely daily routines, and clear communication are to recovery and dignity. Staffing challenges, therapy scheduling, and personal-belongings management are areas we take seriously, and your feedback helps us continue improving our systems, coordination, and oversight. South Hills Post Acute is under new management, and we are actively strengthening staffing support, therapy scheduling consistency, and communication with families to ensure each resident’s plan of care is followed closely and efficiently. We would welcome the opportunity to learn more and address your concerns directly. If you’re open to it, please contact our administration team, 412.831.6050, so we can follow up thoughtfully and continue improving the care experience for all residents and families. Thank you again for sharing your perspective.

I wish you could give 0 stars. Do not let your loved ones go here. Understaffed and the staff is rude. Not enough aids, so call bells will be on for 30 minutes. Horrible at communication. Straight up unsafe conditions. People are falling left and right and staff doesn’t seem to care.

Business response 4 months ago

Thank you for sharing your concerns. We are sorry to hear that your experience did not meet expectations, as resident safety, dignity, and timely care are priorities for our team. We take all feedback seriously and actively monitor staffing levels, response times, and safety protocols to ensure residents receive appropriate care. Any allegation of unsafe conditions or falls is reviewed through our internal quality and risk processes, and concerns regarding communication or staff interactions are addressed directly with leadership. Because we cannot discuss resident-specific details publicly, we encourage you to contact our Administrator at 412-831-1650 so we can review your concerns in detail and follow up appropriately. Open communication allows us to investigate concerns thoroughly and continue strengthening the care environment for all residents. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

I was recently discharged from the South Hills Bethel Park Post Acute Care following a 20 day stay. Days 1 -20. I had both Occupational and Physical therapies five days a week. The therapists are a group of highly skilled, supportive and caring professionals. Kudos to all of them. The facility is spotless and well maintained. Nurses and Nursing Assistants were consistently attentive, caring and professional. Patient safety was paramount at all times. Medical services provided a full eye exam and needed foot care. Additionally, I received a flu shot and pneumonia vaccine. Food services made a concerted effort to provide patients with a balanced and varied menu. Thanksgiving dinner was excellent. A snack was also offered most evenings. Without exception, I was always treated with courtesy and respect. In summary, I would give South Hills Bethel Park Post Acute Care my personal overall Quality score of 4.3 on a 5.0 scale. This was my second admission to this facility and I returned because I had the utmost trust and confidence that I would receive the help I needed. I was not disappointed and was able to return home to live independently & safely. I highly recommend South Hills Bethel Park Post Acute Care.

⚠️Public Awareness⚠️ Be AWARE of Healthcare Services at South Hills Post Acute⚠️ What you need to know about the care my grandmother received during her recent stay at South Hills Post Acute. 1. Lack of Communication: There was insufficient communication between the admissions team, the supervisor, and the social worker from St. Clair Hospital. This lack of coordination created confusion and delays in care with my grandmother receiving her medication the day of arrival. she is a 94 year-old woman who just had a fractured hip surgery brought to the rehab rehabilitation center. 2. Patient Consideration: Upon my grandmother’s arrival, there was a noticeable lack of consideration for her comfort, particularly regarding her room assignment and the admissions process. 3. Medication Delays: My grandmother did not receive her medications in a timely manner. It took approximately five hours for the supervisor to enter her medication into the system after arriving, resulting in unnecessary distress, pain and discomfort. 4. Staff Knowledge of Patient Conditions: A facility team member exhibited a concerning lack of knowledge about my grandmother’s condition. This was evidenced by the improper transfer of the patient on an oversized wheelchair, which posed a risk to her safety. 5. Dietary Restrictions Ignorance: It was apparent that staff members were not aware of my grandmother’s dietary restrictions, leading to potential health risks. 6. Dismissive Attitude of Staff: When we raised our concerns about the quality of care and treatment, the supervisor responded with dismissiveness and a combative attitude, further exacerbating our family’s distress and grandmothers. 7. Facility Condition: The environment is dated, reminiscent of conditions from another family member’s stay in the late 1990s. This lack of upkeep raises concerns about the overall standards of care provided. The facility receives hundreds of thousands of dollars from the insurance companies to have these patients in their facility. You would think they would modernize and cleanup their surroundings. 8. Missing Dentures: My grandmother’s dentures went missing during her stay, adding to our concerns about her care and the facility’s management. The supervisors ignorance in reporting provided negligence towards a “hearsay” report versus the recorded upper and lower dentures on her records that were in her mouth which staff acknowledged. 9. As a family, we decided to make an executive decision and remove our grandmother from the facility. The process was very challenging again with miscommunication. I was told by the social worker at the facility, that, her prescriptions we’re being transmitted to CVS pharmacy. Three to four hours later, we were told that they were not being transmitted and that we would have to come to pick them up at the rehabilitation center either at midnight or the next morning. Again, leading to more distress, pain and discomfort. 10. Overall Experience: The professionalism exhibited by the staff was below acceptable standards. The RN-to-patient ratio of 1 to 15 is concerning, indicating inadequate staffing levels which likely contributed to the issues faced. Given these serious concerns, do not send your loved one to South Hills Post Acute! It is essential that future residents receive the standard of care they deserve.

My dad is currently a patient at this facility, and he is truly well taken care of. Every single staff member is friendly, caring, and shows a real sense of urgency when it comes to their patients. Overall I have to give middle rating for our experience with SHPO. I’ll start with the positives. The vast majority of the aids and nurses that cared for my father were very good. They were extremely caring people and it showed. I also give high ratings to the speech pathology, physical therapists and occupational therapy professionals. I have to take a star away because of the condition of the facility. It’s needs upgrades and general maintenance. I initially was very dissatisfied with poor communications from the administration around insurance, billing and care planning for my father. This improved somewhat during his stay.

Business response 6 months ago

Curt, thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We truly appreciate your kind words about our nursing, therapy, and care teams — their compassion and professionalism are what make SHPA special. We also want you to know that we’re under new management and are actively working toward many physical improvements throughout the facility, along with continued enhancements in communication and care coordination. Your experience matters to us, and your comments help guide our ongoing efforts to make SHPA a better place for every resident and family. — The SHPA Team

I’m currently impatient on the rehab floor. I must admit that I was upset when I first got here, as I just wanted to go home. However after a few days? I realized just how blessed I was to be in a facility with such excellent caring and loving staff. What a great group of people that genuinely care along with doing an excellent job at taking care of their patients. I honestly can’t find a negative thing to say along with a fact the physical and occupational therapy have been fantastic! I really put the work in and luckily I’m leaving sooner than expected. God forbid I’m in this position again, I would absolutely choose to stay here. I honestly cannot find a negative thing to say.
